一篇关于“学习热情消退”的深度阅读训练
English Reading Passage
The Short Life of Motivation
Ryan was always full of energy at the beginning.
Whenever he decided to improve his English, he created a new plan, bought new notebooks, and promised himself that this time would be different.
At that moment, his motivation① was strong.
He woke up early, followed his schedule, and completed every task. For a few days, everything went perfectly.
He felt proud of his effort②.
“This is the new me,” he thought.
But something always changed after a short time.
One morning, he felt a little tired and decided to skip one task. It didn’t seem like a big problem.
“I’ll do more tomorrow,” he told himself.
However, that small change affected his routine③.
The next day, it became easier to skip again.
Slowly, his routine started to disappear.
Within a week, his plan was gone.
Ryan felt disappointed. He didn’t understand why his motivation① never lasted.
He had strong intentions. He truly wanted to improve. But his actions didn’t match his goals.
One evening, after another failed attempt, he sat quietly and thought about his habits.
He realized something important.
He depended too much on motivation.
When he felt excited, he worked hard. But when that feeling disappeared, he stopped.
In other words, his learning was controlled by emotion, not by consistency④.
That realization changed his thinking.
Ryan decided to try a different approach.
Instead of waiting for motivation, he focused on building a simple routine.
He reduced his daily tasks. He chose activities that were easy to start. Most importantly, he decided to continue even when he didn’t feel like it.
At first, it felt strange.
He didn’t feel excited. He didn’t feel inspired.
But he kept going.
Day by day, his routine became more stable.
Even on days when his motivation① was low, he still completed small tasks.
Over time, something surprising happened.
His sense of discipline⑤ began to grow.
He no longer needed strong motivation to start. His actions became automatic.
Weeks later, Ryan looked back and noticed real improvement.
Not because he worked harder than before, but because he stayed consistent.
Ryan learned that motivation is powerful, but temporary.
Consistency is quiet, but lasting.
And in the long run, consistency always wins.
