Many people believe that advances in technology have helped reduce educational inequality. However, I largely disagree with this view, as technological development alone cannot ensure equal access to quality education.
One major reason is the existence of a digital divide. Students from disadvantaged backgrounds often lack access to reliable internet connections, modern devices or technical support. As a result, they are unable to benefit fully from online learning platforms and digital resources. Moreover, the quality of education provided through technology varies significantly. Simply having access to online materials does not guarantee effective learning without proper guidance and support.
That said, it is undeniable that technology has made educational resources more widely available than before. Online courses and digital libraries allow learners to access information that was previously difficult to obtain. However, these benefits tend to favour students who already possess the necessary resources and skills, rather than those most in need.
In conclusion, while technology has the potential to support education, it has not significantly reduced educational inequality. To address this issue, technological advancement must be accompanied by policies that ensure equal access and quality support for all learners.
